People rarely follow you until they’ve seen you follow someone else well.

Being able to take instruction is evidence that you understand what you are asking of other people. Somebody never seen doing a job they did not choose looks like a risk, because nobody knows how they treat whoever is in charge when it is not them. Following well is harder than it looks and fairly rare, which is why it gets noticed. The surest way to seem trustworthy with power is to have handled not having it.

Do somebody else’s plan properly this week, including the parts you would have done differently. Make your case once, then commit. Let people see you take a correction without sulking.
