Some days leading means making the schedule fair, not making it fun.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Much of the job is administrative and does nothing for your popularity. Dividing shifts, sorting out who gets the bad slot, stopping the same person always working Saturdays: none of it is enjoyable and all of it decides whether people think they are being treated squarely. Fun is nice; fairness is what keeps a group together. Some weeks the most useful thing you do is a spreadsheet.

Look at your group’s rota or task list and find who keeps getting the worst of it. Fix that before you plan anything social. Show people how you worked it out, so the fairness is visible.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Is the way you divide shifts fair or just popular?
