Your face while someone pitches an idea is feedback too. Learn to listen with it.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Expression arrives before any of your words do, and people adjust to it instantly. A flicker of impatience while somebody is explaining tells them to wrap up, and you never hear the rest of it. That is feedback you did not mean to give, and it carries further than whatever you say afterwards. Quiet in a room is often just a response to somebody’s face.

Pay attention to what your face is doing while people talk this week. Hold a neutral, interested expression even when you have already decided. Ask a question at the end, so the listening is visible.
