A strong reputation does not need every rumor answered.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Chasing every rumor gives it standing. A reputation built over years is usually more resilient than the person holding it believes, and most false claims run out of energy faster if nothing feeds them. Responding turns a passing remark into an ongoing subject and can suggest that the matter is unsettled. Silence is not always weakness; sometimes it is confidence.

Before answering something said about you, ask whether the people who matter to you actually believe it. If they do not, let it go. Save your responses for the few things that would genuinely change how you are understood.
