Understanding does not arrive gradually in the way it is usually drawn. It tends to come after a long stretch of confusion, where nothing seems to be improving and you are holding pieces that do not fit together. That stretch is not the delay before the learning. It is the learning, happening somewhere you cannot watch, and most people quit inside it because it feels exactly like failure.

When you next feel completely lost, give it three more sessions before deciding you cannot do it. Go back over the same material rather than hunting for easier material.
