You don’t need to love a subject to get good at it. Sometimes the love shows up after the skill.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Interest gets treated as the thing you need before you begin, which leaves anybody who feels nothing yet waiting for a signal that never comes. For a lot of skills the order runs the other way. Competence makes a subject legible, and a subject you can finally see properly becomes interesting. The affection shows up around the point where you stop being bad at it.

Take the class you feel flat about and give it six honest weeks rather than a verdict. Work the basic moves until they stop being awkward. If you still feel nothing then, fine, but judge it from the far side of the clumsy part.
