Agreement under pressure can become resentment after pressure disappears.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Consent given under pressure has a short half-life. Once the deadline passes and the room is gone, the person reconsiders and often concludes they were pushed, and from then on they act on that conclusion. What was gained in the moment is repaid over the term of the relationship. Pressure is an effective way to get a signature and a poor way to get cooperation.
If you notice you are winning because someone is cornered, consider giving them time anyway. And when you are the one being pressed, ask for a day. Almost nothing that requires an immediate answer is a good arrangement.
