If a fact makes you feel exactly the way you wanted to feel, double-check it.

Pleasure is not evidence. A claim that confirms your side, flatters your group or gives you permission to do what you already wanted arrives with the checking already switched off, which is precisely how the most misleading things get through. The feeling of satisfaction is doing the work that scepticism should be doing.
Make the rule mechanical so it does not depend on your mood: anything that delights you gets one search before you repeat it. Look specifically for who disagrees and why. If it holds up, you have lost nothing but a minute and gained something you can defend.
