The things you chase usually feel smaller once you catch them. The people next to you don’t.

Wanting something gives it a size it loses on arrival. The phone, the place on the team, the result: each one is enormous while it is ahead of you and ordinary within a fortnight. Relationships do not work that way. A person you are close to tends to matter more over time rather than less.
Notice that difference when you are deciding where your week goes. Put one thing in it with somebody who matters to you, with the same seriousness you would give a goal. The chasing is fine; it is just worth knowing which part you will still value in ten years.
Who stayed beside you while you chased something smaller?
