Years from now you’ll forget the score. You’ll remember your dad standing in the rain to watch.

Results have a short memory and presence has a long one. The numbers from a season disappear within a few years, while the image of somebody standing in bad weather because you were playing does not. That is because the score was about the game and the person was about you. One of those is information and the other is evidence of being loved.

Thank whoever comes to watch, by name, this season. And if the person who used to stand there is not around to thank, you are allowed to keep the picture without doing anything with it.
