Nobody’s happy every day. Mostly okay with some great parts is a real win, not a consolation prize.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Constant happiness is not an available state, and treating it as the target makes an ordinary good life look like a failure. What a good stretch actually feels like is a baseline of fine, punctuated by things that are genuinely great and some days that are hard. That is the shape, not a diluted version of it.

Try scoring a week on whether most of the days were okay rather than on whether any of them were excellent. If the answer is yes, say so. A wrong bar is the most common reason people feel worse than their life is.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would you accept a mostly fine life as a success?
