You are the main character only from inside your own head. Everywhere else you are the person at the till, the kid on the bus, the one who held a door open, appearing for a few seconds in a story that belongs to somebody else. Those few seconds are still the whole of you that they ever get.

Pick one of your small daily appearances this week and do it properly: the greeting, the thank you, the stepping aside. It costs almost nothing and it is most of your effect on other people.
