Many people want truth as long as truth agrees with the story they already purchased.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Most people are not looking for truth in the open sense. They are looking for confirmation of an account they already committed to, often years ago and at some cost. Once that commitment is made, contrary information does not feel like information. It feels like a challenge to something they paid for.

Before you argue, ask yourself whether the person in front of you is actually asking a question. If they are not, the argument will only harden them. And turn the same test on yourself: notice what you refuse to reconsider, and check what you paid for it.
