The sun rose on your worst day too. It doesn’t care, which is weirdly comforting.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Daylight carries on straight through the worst thing that has ever happened to you, and at first that looks like indifference. Turned over, it reads differently. Nothing had to be persuaded to continue; the morning came anyway, and it will keep coming while you work out what to do next. A disaster does not get the power to stop the world, which means it does not get the power to stop your whole life either.

On a heavy day, step outside early and let the plain fact of the light be enough. You do not have to feel better to notice it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which indifferent, ordinary thing steadied you on an awful day?
