Ask your grandparents what they did at your age. It’s the best history class you’ll never get graded on.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Old people were once exactly your age, and almost nobody asks them about it. They had the same fear of looking stupid, the same crushes, the same arguments at home, and they also lived through things that now turn up in textbooks. Ask, and you get history with a face attached, which lands in a way no syllabus manages.

Ask one specific question this week rather than a general one. What did you do on a Friday night, what frightened you, who did you fancy. Record it if they will let you.
