New glasses don’t change how you look as much as they change what you notice.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

You will spend the first week worrying about the frames and the second week realising that leaves have edges. The visible change is small and mostly interesting to you; the real change is that the world got detailed again. Which is a useful reminder about most things you worry about wearing: the effect on your experience is large and the effect on other people’s attention is tiny.

Give the new thing a fortnight before judging it. Spend that time noticing what you can suddenly do rather than how you appear doing it. Ask the same question about the next thing you are nervous to wear.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What did you start noticing once you could see properly?
