Maintenance prevents dramatic stories, which is why it rarely receives dramatic praise.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Nobody tells the story of the problem that did not occur. The person who kept the system running, replaced the part early, or handled the small tension before it became a rupture produces no visible event, and visible events are what get recognized. Meanwhile the person who fixed the crisis is thanked, even when the crisis was preventable. Prevention is structurally underappreciated.
Notice who in your life prevents trouble rather than resolving it, and say something. And do not measure your own maintenance work by the recognition it gets. The absence of drama is the result.
Whose steady, unglamorous work in your life goes unthanked?
