Your mom’s “text me when you get there” isn’t control. It’s love that ran out of other ways to say it.

REFLECTION
The sentence sounds like surveillance and is usually something else. A parent who cannot do the drive for you, cannot see the road, cannot be there, is left with one small instruction that lets them put the worry down for the evening. It is not about trust in your competence. It is the only lever they have left.
Send the text. Two words takes three seconds and buys somebody a night of sleep. If the checking genuinely feels like too much, say so at a calm moment rather than in the doorway, and offer the version you can actually keep to.
Which of your parent’s nagging habits is actually affection?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
