Your parents may never understand your job title. Explain it anyway. Pride doesn’t need a translator.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Job titles have become strange, and a parent who worked somewhere with clear names may genuinely not follow what you do all day. That is a translation problem, not a lack of interest. Explaining it in plain terms, by what you actually make or fix or help with, gives them something to hold. Pride does not need the title to be understood.
Describe it once in the simplest language you can manage, with an example from an ordinary Tuesday. Leave out the words only your industry uses. Then ask about their work the same way, and you will both get a better conversation than expected.
How would you explain what you do to your family?
