Your first language may be how you learned to love. Your second may be how you learn to work. Both are you.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Different languages end up holding different parts of a life. The one from home carries the food, the arguments, the songs, the way people say your name when they are worried about you. The one from school carries the exams, the emails, the job. Neither is the real one and neither is a translation of the other, and you are not divided by having both.

Use each where it belongs this week without apologising for the switch. Speak the home language at home, properly, including the words you have been letting go. Then write something in the other one that you would normally only feel in the first.
