“Trust me” from someone you just met is a reason to check twice.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Trust is something you observe over time, not something a person can grant themselves on your behalf. When someone announces it early, they are trying to skip the part where they earn it, usually because there is something they would rather you not look at closely. People who turn out reliable rarely bring it up.

When you hear it, slow down instead of speeding up. Ask the dull questions: what exactly happens next, who else is involved, what if you change your mind. If the answers go vague or impatient, you have learned what you needed.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who asked for your trust before they had done anything to earn it?
