If they call you a try-hard, take it as a review. At least they noticed you were trying.

That insult only works on people who are embarrassed to be seen caring. Strip the tone off it and you get a factual report: you were visibly putting in effort, and somebody who was not found that uncomfortable to watch. The word is really a request that you lower yourself to the room.

Decline the request. Keep running the extra set, keep revising, keep asking the question nobody else will. If you want to answer at all, agreeing cheerfully ends it faster than a defence and leaves the trying exactly where it was.
