Some people pay to fix a gap in their smile. Some people make it their signature. Both are allowed.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

There are two reasonable responses to any feature, and neither is braver than the other. One person changes it and feels more like themselves; another keeps it and feels more like themselves. What matters is not the choice but whether you made it or absorbed it from whoever had the loudest opinion.

If you are thinking about changing something, ask whose voice is in the room when you picture it done: yours, or a group of twelve-year-olds from years ago. If you are keeping it, stop presenting it as something that needs defending. Either way it is yours to decide, and you can decide differently at twenty.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would you rather correct the thing that makes you recognisable or keep it?
