You don’t need the whole school to like you. Two people who’d help you move is a rich life.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
General popularity is wide and shallow, and it does very little once something actually goes wrong. The useful measure is how many people would give up a Saturday for you, and for most people, at any age, the answer is two or three. That is not a small number; it is the whole thing.
Rather than trying to be liked more broadly, put the effort into those two. Turn up when it is inconvenient, remember the thing they were nervous about, offer before being asked. Ask who you would help move, then behave so the list runs both ways.
Who would show up to help you carry boxes?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
