Talk to yourself like you’d talk to your little cousin who’s learning. Same patience, same belief.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Patience comes easily when the learner is somebody else’s little kid. With a younger kid you expect mistakes, you explain again, and you assume they will get there, and none of that generosity gets pointed at yourself. The difference is habit rather than knowledge.

Catch the next harsh sentence and ask whether you would say it to a nine-year-old learning to ride a bike. Then say the version you would say to them, out loud if you can manage it. Keep the same steadiness, and the same assumption that this is a stage rather than a limit.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would you say your self-talk out loud to a child learning?
