Every group has unwritten rules. Learning them isn’t selling out. Breaking one on purpose requires knowing it first.

Groups run on conventions nobody states out loud: how much you may joke about effort, who gets interrupted, what you are allowed to care about openly. Learning those is observation rather than surrender, and it is the only way to break one deliberately instead of by accident. Not knowing is not rebellion; it is just stumbling.
Spend a week watching one group you belong to and write down three of its rules. Then pick one you dislike and break it knowingly: care out loud about something, or decline to join a particular joke. Doing it on purpose feels nothing like doing it by mistake.
