A label someone stuck on you at eleven doesn’t get to sign your contracts at twenty.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Labels from childhood arrive with strange authority, usually from an adult who saw you on one bad week and summed you up: lazy, shy, the difficult one. The trouble is how much of it you carry forward on their behalf, turning down things you would be fine at. A quick read of an eleven-year-old has no standing in your twenties.
Write down the oldest thing you believe about yourself and ask who first said it. If the answer is somebody who barely knew you, test the claim this week by doing the thing it forbids. You outgrew the shoes, and the description can go the same way.
Which label from primary school still shapes what you attempt?
