A scale tells you one number. It doesn’t know if you laughed today.

A measurement only ever answers the narrow question it was built for. Weight knows nothing about your sleep, your strength, whether you were kind at lunch or how the afternoon actually felt, and yet it is strangely willing to pass judgement on all of it. Numbers feel objective, which is what makes them so easy to over-trust. One figure cannot hold a day.
If a number has too much say over your mood, write one sentence a night about how the day really went. Do that for a week and read them together. Keep the measurements you need and stop asking them questions they cannot answer.
What number do you check that knows nothing about your day?
