A suitcase that’s overweight costs extra at the airport. The baggage you won’t drop costs too, just less visibly.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Carrying old grievances has a price that never shows up on a bill. The grudge, the story about what somebody did to you years ago, the version of yourself you defend: each takes energy to maintain and follows you into rooms where it is not relevant. You pay in attention rather than money, which is why it is easy to miss.

Choose one thing you have been carrying and ask what keeping it buys you. If the answer is nothing, try not telling that story for a week. If it is heavier than that, say it out loud to somebody who can help you set it down.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How much is refusing to let go costing you daily?
