Give someone unlimited options and they freeze. Give them three crayons and they make art.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Constraints do a surprising amount of the thinking for you. With everything available, every choice feels like it rules out something better, so you circle instead of starting, while three colours force you into the interesting problem of what to do with three colours. Limits are not the enemy of making things. They are usually the reason anything gets off the ground.

For the project that has not started, pick your limits on purpose: one page, one hour, two instruments, a single colour. Make the small bad version inside them. You can widen the box later and you will have something to widen.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you decide faster with only three choices available?
