Most people never hear their own accent until they leave town. Distance from home shows what home put in you.

You cannot see what surrounded you until you are standing outside it. Leaving reveals which of your habits are yours and which belonged to the place: how you greet people, what counts as loud, how directly you say what you want. None of it was visible while everybody around you did the same.
Go somewhere different enough to notice, which can be a town over or simply a new group, and pay attention to what surprises people about you. Keep the parts you like, question the parts you never chose, and give home credit for the good half.
What did leaving home reveal that home had already given you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
