“Awful” used to mean full of awe. Give a bad day a few years and it might turn into a story you tell with pride.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Words drift, and so do stories. A word that once meant filled with wonder now means terrible, which is a reminder that the label on an experience is not fixed to it permanently. The day that is flattening you right now will be narrated by you later, and you will get some say in the telling. That is not a reason to pretend it is fine today.

If this week is going badly, try writing down what happened in plain sentences. Not for an audience. Just so the version you keep is yours rather than the one your mood wrote.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which bad day became a story you now tell proudly?
