On a good vacation you stop checking the time and start checking the light. Some days should be measured by the sun.

There are two ways to measure a day and most of your life uses only one. Minutes are good for catching buses and bad for telling you whether anything was worth doing, which is why holidays feel different almost immediately. You switch to light, to hunger, to when people wake up, and the day gets larger without gaining a single hour.
Take one day this week, probably a weekend day, and go without the clock for the morning. Eat when hungry, go out while it is bright, and see how long it takes to stop reaching for the time.
Which day lately did you measure by something besides hours?
