“Hopefully” used to mean “full of hope.” Now it means “maybe.” Don’t let your hope shrink with the grammar.

Words lose strength through casual use. A term that once described being full of hope now mostly means probably not, and if your vocabulary for wanting something shrinks, the wanting tends to shrink with it. Saying maybe about your own plans is a small habit with a real effect. It keeps you from being disappointed and also keeps you from committing to anything out loud.
Say what you actually want once this week without hedging it. Out loud, to somebody, in a sentence with no maybe in it.
Where has your hope quietly shrunk into a maybe?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
