A rip current pulls you out, not under. Swim sideways instead of fighting straight back. Some problems need a side door.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fighting a problem head-on feels like the brave answer, and sometimes it is only the exhausting one. A pull stronger than you cannot be beaten by effort in a straight line, but it can be stepped out of sideways. The move is not giving up on where you want to go. It is refusing to spend everything on the one route that will not work.

Think of something you have been pushing at for weeks with nothing to show. Instead of pushing harder, look for the angle: a different person to ask, a different time of day, a smaller version of the same goal.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which problem needs a sideways approach rather than force?
