Nobody builds a bridge where it’s easy to cross. Bridges exist because something was in the way.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Difficulty is the reason the useful thing exists. Nobody puts that much work into ground that was already passable, so the presence of a structure tells you an obstacle came first. That reframes the hard part of what you are doing: the trouble is not a sign you chose badly, it is what makes the work worth anything.

When something you are building feels harder than expected this week, treat that as information rather than a verdict. Ask what exactly is in the way, and name it in plain words. A problem you can name is the beginning of a crossing.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What obstacle made the hardest thing you built necessary?
