New puppies don’t learn “sit” in a day. Neither does a new hire. Be the trainer you’d want.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Learning takes repetition at a rate that has nothing to do with how willing the learner is. Someone new will need the same thing explained several times, not because they were not listening but because nothing has anywhere to stick yet. The person teaching sets how awful that stretch feels.

If somebody is new around you this week, decide to be the good version of the trainer. Show them twice, tell them where things are before they have to ask, and say plainly that nobody expects them to have it yet. Remember how long it took you.
