Plenty of “debut” albums came after years of shows nobody remembers. First release rarely means first try.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

What gets labelled a beginning is usually the first attempt anybody noticed. Behind most visible starts there are years of unrecorded versions, bad rooms and things that went nowhere, and none of that appears in the story afterwards. Comparing your early attempts to somebody’s debut compares your actual start with their twentieth.

Stop counting from the moment people are watching. Put a number on how many attempts you have really made at your thing, and let that be the count. Then go and make an unremembered one this week, on purpose.
