Some text arguments end faster if you just say “can we talk tomorrow.” Tired people fight worse.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Late at night, with no face to read and no tone to hear, a small disagreement gets taken in the least generous way available. You are both low on patience and reading flat words. Pausing is not losing the argument. It moves the conversation to a time when you can both hear what the other one actually meant.

If a thread starts going sideways after ten at night, send the sentence that stops it and put the phone down. Say when you will pick it back up, so it does not read as walking away. Most of what felt enormous at midnight is a two-minute conversation at lunch.
