Speedrunners practice one tricky jump hundreds of times. The fast run is made of a lot of slow ones.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

What looks effortless at full speed was taken apart and drilled in pieces. Whoever runs it fast has failed that one jump more times than most people have attempted it, and the run they show you is the thin layer on top. Fluency is boring work that happened out of sight.

Find the single hardest moment in whatever you are trying to do well and work only on that for a while. The bar before the chorus, the transition in the routine, the kind of problem that always costs you points. Repeat it until it stops being interesting. Then put it back into the whole thing and feel the difference.
