Strawberries picked green don’t ripen much off the plant. Some things need their full time where they are.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Certain processes only work while the thing is still attached to whatever feeds it. Take it away early and development stops, so you get the colour of ripeness without the sweetness. Leaving a situation at the wrong moment can work the same way: the school, the team, the course, the job where you are halfway through learning something.

Before you leave something early, ask what you would still be getting from it if you stayed another month. If the answer is nothing, go. If the answer is a skill, a reference, a friendship that is almost formed, give it its time. Leaving well is different from leaving fast.
