Home is where ordinary objects stop needing explanation.

At home, the odd arrangement of the kitchen is not eccentric, the pile by the door is not a mess, and the thing on the shelf does not need a story. Elsewhere you are constantly translating yourself. Home is where the translation stops and things are allowed to simply be as they are.

If you feel that translating happening in your own house, ask who you are explaining yourself to. Sometimes the answer is a real person and sometimes it is an imagined one. Either way, it is worth reclaiming a corner where nothing needs to be justified.
