Quitting in week one tells you nothing. Quitting in month six, after real effort, might tell you everything.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
An early quit measures discomfort, which every new thing produces, so it carries no information about the thing itself. Six months in, you have actually met it: the boring parts, the plateau, what it asks of you on a bad week. A decision made from there is worth respecting.
Put a minimum on anything new before you start, long enough to get past the awkward stage. Three months of a sport, one term of a class, ten shifts. Write down the date you are allowed to reconsider. If you still want out when it arrives, leave without calling yourself a quitter.
Have you given anything six real months before quitting?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
