The new wire pokes your cheek all of day one. By week two you forget it’s there. You adapt faster than you think.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Discomfort from something new fades far faster than it seems it will on the first day. Your attention keeps returning to whatever has changed, which makes it feel permanent, and then within a fortnight the same thing has dropped out of notice completely. Adaptation does its work without letting you feel it happen.
When something new is uncomfortable, give it two weeks before judging it, and say that number to yourself on day one. Take whatever practical edge off it you can meanwhile. Afterwards, notice how little you think about it, because that is useful evidence next time.
What discomfort did you adapt to faster than you expected?
