Your first credit card is a test of whether you can say no to yourself.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
A card measures something other than whether you can pay it back, which is whether you can tell yourself no in a shop with nobody watching. The limit arrives looking like money you have. For the first time there is nothing between wanting something and having it, and the consequence sits somewhere in next month. That gap is the whole difficulty.
If you have one or are about to, set your own limit lower than theirs and pay it off in full each month, no exceptions. Keep it for things you would have bought anyway. One rule, decided before you are standing at the till.
What do you need to say no to yourself about?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
