The cheapest kind of peace is going to bed before the argument gets stupid.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
After a certain hour, an argument stops being about the subject and starts being about being tired. The same two people with the same disagreement are far more reasonable at nine in the morning, and almost nothing said after midnight turns out to be necessary. Sleep is not avoidance in that situation, it removes the main cause. The subject will still be there, smaller.
When you notice it tipping, say you want to pick this up tomorrow and then actually stop. Do not deliver one last point on the way out. Set a time to come back to it, which makes the pause a pause rather than a dodge.
Which late-night argument should you have ended by sleeping?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
