Hear “you’re wrong” without falling apart. Hear “you’re right” without needing it.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Both of those sentences have more power than they should when your sense of yourself is being assembled from what people say. Criticism feels like a demolition, praise feels like a repair, and in both cases somebody else is holding the controls. Steadiness means taking in the information without the whole structure moving. Being wrong can be useful, and being right does not need an audience.
The next time you are corrected, try answering with a question rather than a defence. And the next time you do something well that nobody mentions, write it down yourself. Both are reps at the same skill.
Whose praise do you need more than you would admit?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
