Your choices don’t need to make sense to people who won’t live with the results.

Advice from people with no stake in the outcome is cheap to give, which is why there is so much of it. The person who has to get up for it, pay for it or live in it for four years is the one whose judgment should carry the most weight, and that is you. Other views are still worth hearing. They are just not the deciding vote.

When you get pushback this week, ask quietly who is affected by how this turns out. Weigh the people on that list properly. Then make the call and stop trying to make it make sense to everyone else.
