Get used to people being a little disappointed in you. It’s part of the price of being yourself.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Being yourself reliably produces a small amount of disappointment in other people, because their picture of you was built from their preferences and you will not match it at every point. The alternative is editing yourself continuously to keep everyone’s version intact, which is exhausting and does not work anyway. A little displeasure is the running cost, not a sign of failure. It is also survivable in a way the alternative is not.
Let one person be mildly disappointed this week without rushing to fix it. Do not over-explain or compensate. Notice that the relationship holds, which it generally does.
Whose mild disappointment are you willing to live with now?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
