If someone keeps borrowing and never returning, the problem isn’t your memory.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
When something happens over and over, the mind reaches for the explanation that blames nobody, usually a vague sense that you are disorganized or misremembering. Count it instead. One hoodie that never came home is forgetfulness. Five of them is a habit, and it belongs to the person who keeps walking off with your things.
Ask once, plainly, with a day in it: can you bring that back by Friday. Nothing attached, no lecture around it. If the answer is another delay, keep lending to that person only at a level you would not mind losing, and keep the good jacket in your own closet.
Who borrows from you and counts on you forgetting?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
